Living in interesting times
It would seem that for many of our customers the waters of business life have, of late, become decidedly choppy. Indeed - and to stretch a dodgy metaphor even further - the actual storm may have passed, but the resulting swell has only just arrived it seems. Rapidly rising commodity prices, increasing bad debt, reduced personal 'discretionary spend' and a generally downbeat message coming from politicians and media alike are all starting to impact negatively on the catering sector. Add to the mix specific events such as the dreadful weather experienced by much of the country over what should have been the busy Christmas period and one might be forgiven for thinking that to be involved in this industry at present is most definitely to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. But, as they say, 'when the going gets tough....' So, with that in mind Centaur Foods has sought to further improve what we do and how we do it: after nearly a year's gruelling preparation we have recently successfully undergone our first BRC audit; we have invested heavily both in new product lines and equipment; and we continue to invest in our most important asset, our staff.
At Centaur Foods we continue to have confidence in our future and the future of this industry. We think that the biggest danger is to adopt a negative outlook. So we don't.
