Oriental Ingredients
Food, no less than clothes or music, is subject to the vagaries of fashion; one minut
e we're all trying to recreate our own authentic Tapas experience; the next it's Tagines or bust; and so it goes. Most recently, however, it is what can be loosely described as Oriental ingredients which have noticeably impacted on popular cooking and eating. Indeed, the likes of Thai sweet chilli sauce and coconut milk are now as much larder staples as ketchup and tinned tomatoes. Naturally, here at Centaur Foods we have done our utmost to bring you a selection of the most popular of these ingredients, as well as some we believe will soon become staples in their own right.
Panko Breadcrumbs are already well or their way to being the first choice for any chef wishing to create a breaded dish with the best possible texture and appearance. The uniquely elongated Panko crumb helps to create a finished product which is superior in every respect to its traditional European counterpart. Tempura Batter Mix is, in many respects, a similar story: compared to the lightness and crispness of classic Tempura batter traditional batters seem somewhat heavy, stodgy even.
Other notable recent additions to our Far Eastern offering are the sinus blowing phenomenon that is Wasabi Paste, the awful smelling, but nevertheless brilliant Fish Sauce and subtle, sweet Pink Pickled Ginger. We also have available Sushi Nori Seaweed and some very authentic - i.e. fairly fierce - Thai Curry Pastes
